Holistic

The word Holistic can be confusing.

What exactly does it imply, and why is it something that I should care about?

Like other terms that can seem vague such as organic, all natural, free range, and even plant based…the word Holistic can often be misunderstood.

If I look back at the origins of when this word first entered my thoughts, it started resonating at a time in my late 20’s when I was in the very early stages of transitioning into veganism.  At the same time, I was also new to long distance running. For reasons I cannot explain, other than that I listened to my inner knowing, I decided that I was going to stop eating animals while also training for my first marathon.

I believed then (and still do now), that I could fuel my body better, sustain my energy longer, and recover quicker if I was no longer weighed now by using animals for food.

As I embraced the approach, I started to become aware that I was sleeping better, had more mental clarity & was feeling more connected with nature, my conscious mind & even started questioning my inner programing (the things you are trained and told to believe rather than developing opinions and beliefs on your own).

It was becoming clearer all the time that my whole body, my whole being, was being influenced by what I was not only choosing to eat, but also by what I was no longer willing to eat.

The word Holistic entered my life in a way I understood to mean “whole body”.  Running, fueled by veganism, was the beginning of my journey into Holistic Wellness.

In more recent years, I’ve made the connection on how truly all parts of our minds, bodies, and spirits are intertwined. The knowledge that your gut health is directly related to your mental health…learning that my spiritual health is tied to my emotional and physical health….these are just a few of the ways I opened my eyes to the interconnections that include physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social wellbeing.

As I step further into my journey to incorporate Holistic Practitioner into my life, I look forward to sharing it with you!  It’s the next chapter in my life of care and service.  In some manner throughout my entire life, I have gravitated towards hospitality, caring for, feeding, nurturing or healing…so this is just the next chapter of my natural evolution to continue to know better and then do better, which in turn helps me to be better and give better.

“There is no greater waste of our gifts than to keep them to ourselves instead of

sharing them with the world!”

I'd love to hear from you!
